How to obtain the Pine software Pine was (and continues to be) developed by the Office of Computing & Communications, University of Washington, which supports versions of Pine for various flavors of Unix, as well as for DOS and Windows. Pine has also been adapted to other operating systems, but those versions are not directly supported by the University of Washington. _________________________________________________________________ Versions supported by the University of Washington: Pine for Unix Pine, Pico (the text editor used to compose messages in Pine), and UW's IMAP server are copyrighted, but freely available. The latest versions, including source code, of Pine and Pico for Unix can be found on the anonymous FTP host ftp.cac.washington.edu in the file /pine/pine.tar.Z. To "test drive" Pine for Unix without downloading and installing it, telnet to demo.cac.washington.edu and login as "pinedemo". Unix binaries of Pine, Pico, and IMAP are available from the anonymous FTP host ftp.cac.washington.edu in the directories /pine/unix-bin or /pine/unix-bin-compressed. In addition to these already compiled Unix binaries, the Pine source code can be compiled for a variety of platforms; see Pine: Available ports. IMAP software is also available from the anonymous FTP host ftp.cac.washington.edu in the directory /imap. For more information on IMAP, visit the IMAP Information Center. Pine for DOS/Microsoft Windows PC-Pine for DOS and Windows/Winsock can be downloaded from the anonymous FTP host ftp.cac.washington.edu, in the directory /pine/pcpine. _________________________________________________________________ In addition to the University of Washington's anonymous FTP host, its Pine distribution can be downloaded from several other servers around the world. See Pine: Mirror sites. _________________________________________________________________ Versions not supported by the University of Washington: Pine and its documentation have been adapted to other operating systems and usage environments that may be of interest to you. See Non-UW Pine adaptations and resources. _________________________________________________________________ (Last updated: Tuesday, 26 Aug. 1997) Pine: Available ports The three-letter code shown in the table below is used to specify which platform to compile Pine for, as explained in the section Building the Pine Programs in the Technical Notes. Please note: these codes are not parts of filenames, but arguments to the build command used to compile the Pine source code.
